Hello from Rwanda
DianeR — Tue, 09/18/2007 - 5:34pm
Muraho!
You would not believe the driving here! Three lanes of traffic turn where only one should. Every road is a passing zone. Once, we passed a vehicle on the wrong side of the road because they would not move back to their side. They fit twenty-five people into a Toyota bus (looks like a hippy bus), and drive until they run out of gas. The motor taxis weave in and out of traffic with sometimes two people on the back. I saw one go by on a main road with a sixteen foot length of 4" PVC pipe. The pedestrians step into the traffic without looking both ways, and walk between stopped cars at the few stop lights that Kigali has. We saw a UN truck run a red light the other day, it was pretty funny. If you are turning left onto a road, you drive halfway across, wait for the other side to clear, and then proceed the rest of the way.
Three days ago we went to the street boys ministry on the other side of Kigali. Nearly two hundred kids from 5 to 15 come there to eat lunch, and learn a little carpentry. An enormous 3' by 3' pot of rice feeds all the children. They can also get soap and water to wash themselves and their clothes. We are going back there tomorrow to start Mr. Smyth's medical clinic. Many of the children have infected cuts and other medical problems that need attention.

Let Go...
keithp — Sun, 09/16/2007 - 8:42am
A man named Jack was walking along a steep cliff one day when he accidentally got too close to the edge and fell. On the way down he grabbed a branch, which temporarily stopped his fall. He looked down and to his horror saw that the canyon fell straight down for more than a thousand feet. He couldn't hang onto the branch forever, and there was no way for him to climb up the steep wall of the cliff. So Jack began yelling for help, hoping that someone passing by would hear him and lower a rope or something. "HELP! HELP! Is anyone up there? HELP!"
He yelled for hours, but no one heard him. He was about to give up when he heard a voice.
"Jack, Jack. Can you hear me?"
"Yes, yes! I can hear you. I'm down here!"
"I can see you, Jack. Are you all right?"
"Yes, but . . . Who are you, and where are you?"
"I am the Lord, Jack. I'm everywhere."
"The Lord? You mean, GOD?"
"That's Me."
"God, please help me! I promise if You'll get me down from here, I'll stop sinning. I'll be a really good person. I'll serve You for the rest of my life."
"Easy on the promises, Jack. Let's just get you down from there; then we can talk. Now, here's what I want you to do. Listen carefully."
"I'll do anything, Lord. Just tell me what to do."
"Okay. Let go of the branch."
"What?"
Picasa Online Photo Sharing
keithp — Sun, 09/16/2007 - 8:38am
Sharing Pictures with Picasa
Picasa is a free application from Google that helps to organize photos on your computer and it also allows easy uploading to a web album that you can share with your family and friends or you can leave your albums private - with the click of a button. They allocate 1GB of space to store photos on the internet and provide a way to see slideshows of your albums.
To start, you will need a google gmail account, if you don't already have one. To sign up for an account go to mail.google.com and click on the "I want my Gmail" link on the right side of the page. After you have a gmail account, not only do you have almost 3 Gigabytes of email storage, you also have a host of other free applications such as Picasa.
Now your ready to get Picasa, so sign into your gmail account and at the top of the page you will see a Photos link - click that and you will be asked for your password once again to setup your online album. Ok, so now you have an online album, all you need now is the Picasa software - go to http://picasa.google.com/download/ to get it. Install it to your hard drive and you're almost done.
Once installed Picasa will want to scan your hard drive for photos - just point it at the place where you normally keep your pictures. After it's finished, you can choose a whole bunch of pictures or just a few and click on the Web Album button at the bottom of the Picasa application. You may have to enter your gmail username/password here as well.
That's it!

Freshman Year, Here We Come....
MoriahG — Fri, 09/07/2007 - 3:22pm
Woah! We get blogs? Sweet.
Drum roll please! A bunch of my friends and I are starting our Freshman year this Tuesday. DUN DUN DUNNN. Wow. I know it won't be hugely different "school"-wise, because thankfully we don't have to go to an all-new school and meet all new people, especially upperclassmen, who do not necessarily enjoy having freshmen around. :P (from what I've heard)
But we will be taking new classes, harder classes, classes that require more effort and attention. We may have had to drop some "extracurricular" classes for more "educational" ones-for instance, I've already opted for Biology and dissecting little frogs instead of doing Drama and singing alongside Anne of Green Gables. :P (not RIGHT alongside but you get the point. :P) But it's for education. Which is always a good thing. :) And to get Biology over with Freshman Year. Whew. Despite the fact we'll be in the same atmosphere, with the same peers and upperclassmen who are kinder than some, we still have a whole new sort of year to look forward to. Less play, more work. Get the right classes so you can graduate with all your credits. Sharpen your mind for the SAT. Start looking at colleges your siblings are deciding on. (or ones they haven't thought of) Juggling jobs, school at home, and school at Agape. Juggling all that and Driver's Ed, maybe? I guess this is high school in general, not just freshmen.
Alright, so not everyone will be doing all these things at once. And we're Freshmen. College isn't as close as it is to the Juniors or Seniors. But we'll still have more responsibility and more work than before. But there could come more enjoyment with this as well.

Awesome! A blog!
JoyG — Fri, 09/07/2007 - 12:41pm
Awesome! I've got a blog, pretty cool, no?
Anyways, I can't wait for agape to start! I singed up for fourteen classes but only got in six, but that's A OK with me. I'm hoping that I don't get alot of homework though... :( I'm really excited about them all, but also a small tad bit nervous, cause one of the classes is Geography, and I'm not that good at it, like, I haven't even DONE it ever. Except for once, and that was ONE lesson. Lets just say I'm behind.
Useing this blog is nice. It's like my xanga. Kinda...oh, but Mo and I share it, but it's mostly mine, cause she has a blogspot. Umm...I have to go do my preperations for AG, and uh, well, clean my room. I'll post more later. :)
~Joy~
P.S. Hmm, I'm sizing up to kiaya's long post. ;-) Ok, well, maybe not. Maybe some day. Oh, can you comment on these? Haha, if you can't i won't know. Heeheee, wow. Tootles, and most likley, probably, maybe sure to, see you Tuesday!
Wow.
