Prayer Request

beckyw — Fri, 06/25/2010 - 2:06pm

Some of "old timers" remember Diane from years past.  (She did our elementary musicals a few years back.  This prayer request is for her husband, Paul.

Becky

Paul has an aortic ascending aneurysm. That, in simple terms, means the aortic channel coming up from the heart is enlarged. In his case significantly. A normal channel is 3.9 cm in diameter. Paul's is 5.6 cm. So, Paul does have a BIG heart!

All of this is brought on by his congenital defect...bicuspid aortic valve. This caused his heart murmur from birth.

Both the valve and the ascending aorta with need to be replaced.

Paul is scheduled to be admitted June 28 for angioplasty. Kind of a check up of the entire vascular system. They believe there is nothing wrong there, thank God!

So the BIG surgery is scheduled for June 29. The actual surgery will replace the ascending portion of the aorta and replace the aortic valve. The valve is the cause of his murmur...from birth.  They estimate the surgery time at 4-5 hours, 7 days in hospital, and 6-8 weeks of recovery.

Recovery will be long and slow. As one doctor said you are going to wonder WHY you had this done because you feel so horrible! That's encouraging. :-P But we serve God that is bigger and better than that!

Thank you all for your prayers and love. God is good and we have been covered by His boundless mercy and grace!

Love you all,

Diane and Paul Zalewski
