Chemistry Basics (6-8th grade)
Thursdays from 11:15- 12:15 in room 229
Description: 30 lessons in 5 units with hands on activitites including making model atoms, breaking covalent bonds, making gas expand. We will learn: Chemistry terms, notations, and rule unit. This is a strong, basic chemistry course for Jr. High students. Each class will have an experiment or observation along with the lesson of the day.
- Intro to Chemistry: basics, chemistry tools, matter, the elements, mixtures and compound
- Adoms and molecules: atomic number, atomic mass, periodic table, molecules
- Nature of Chemistry: chemical bonds, formulas, naming compounds, reactions, acids, bases and salts
- State of Matter: solids and liquids, gases, gas laws, state change, solutions
- Organic Chemistry: hydrocarbons, alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, esters, biochemistry
Cost is $20/pp for the entire school year payable on or before August 1, 2008.
