Debate Tournament Participation

Submitted by gloriah on Sun, 09/21/2008 - 9:10am.

To participate in debate tournaments outside of class ...

Families must register with National Christian Forensics and Communicatons Association at www.NCFCA.org.

The registration fee is $45 until Dec 31. After Dec 31 the fee increases to $60. This fee covers all debating family members for the debate season for 2008-2009. A family registration form is available at http://www.ncfca.org/downloads/pdf/NCFCA_2008_Affiliate_Application.pdf.

We are in Region 10. The region 10 coordinator is Darlene Rossi and the New Hampshire coordinator is Kathy Edelblut. They can both be contacted through the region 10 home page http://www.ncfca.org/regional_contacts/reg_10_home. They will be able to give you information about competitions in our area.

This year's topics for debate are

Team Policy Debate

Resolved: That the United States Federal Government should significantly change its policy toward India.

Lincoln Douglas Debate

Resolved: When in conflict, idealism ought to be valued above pragmatism.

Resources for these topics can be purchased at www.monumentpublishing.com. Blule book materials pertain to team policy debate and red book to Lincoln Douglas debate. Each provides information about the topic and debate format and example cases with lots of supporting evidence. The blue book or red book is a great place to start.

Students typically choose one format and spend the year preparing and practicing for competition.
