Just Curious Post #2: Jehovah or Allah?
CarolineG — Fri, 10/12/2007 - 12:42pm
Based on your own understanding right now, do you think that "Allah" and "Jehovah" are different names for the same God? Why, or why not?

Allah vs Jehovah
JodieL — Thu, 10/25/2007 - 9:35pmGiven that the oldest Hebrew texts did not use the vowel symbols, Yahweh and Jehovah have been intrepreted to be different "pronounciations" for the name of God. Also given that the written arabic language is similar in it's use of vowel markings and that translations from one alphabet + language to another has always been dicey and that the Muslim religion proclaims itself to be an extension of the Jewish and Christian traditions then my untutored guess would be that yes they are different names for the same God.
What is your understanding to date?
Jodie
Well...
CarolineG — Fri, 10/26/2007 - 1:28am...the thing is, the character of Allah is so different from the character of Jehovah/Yahweh. That for me is the best evidence that they are not the same. I've listened to former Muslims say they are not the same God, either, but they could be considered biased. However, the descriptions of Jehovah compared to Allah really are two different sets of characteristics.
I just posted some videos on the Extreme Days blog that played a big part in my decision. You might like to see them. LINK
Thanks for your input on both questions!
