i want to be less like you and more like me

beckham — Sat, 10/13/2007 - 7:45pm

i'm reading this great book right now, it's called "i kissed dating good-bye" it's really giving me a great perspective on guys and when it is the right time to have a serious relationship, and when it's time to just be friends. right now, i've decided to just be friends with the guys in my life. why ruin a friendship with emotional stuff? the only hard part is, there's a guy i really like and i think he likes me. i want to date him, but i know it's not the right time. sometimes being a friend is really hard. any advice?

thank you both so very much! i really appriciate your comments and words of wisdom! i was chatting with my friend the other day and she said to let God be your "boyfriend" right now. relationships and dating can get so out of wack sometimes, thank you for reminding me that a guy isn't everything!

much love

You are very welcome!  Any time!  Great advice from your friend!  Relationships can be complicated.  Keep 'em simple and enjoy them!

my 2 cents...

Always remember that these feelings are normal.  Don't try to stuff them or deny them.  The more you do this the harder it's going to be to keep your focus on the right things.  I suggest finding someone older then you to confide in when you are feeling like your emotions are too strong and overwhelming (preferrably your mom or some other adult woman you and your mom trust).  It may also help to remember that they are just emotions.  Emotions are important and have their place, otherwise God would not have created us with them, but they are not to be the compass of our lives.

I think you are very wise to be addressing this issue openly and to be setting your boundaries now.  You will save yourself much heartache in the future.

keep up the good fight

We are so much about feelings that it's hard to imagine we can overcome them at all.  Keep your goal in mind.  Your decisions now matter so much later on.  Pray often.  2 Corinthians 12:9 says it all.  When we focus on our Jesus, He is enough to keep us going in the right direction.  Surround yourself with "girlfriends" who understand and support you.  Always go out as a group.  I wish I had your strength in character when I was your age.  I hope this helps.
